I love having a reason to throw a get together at our home. Recently some dear friends of ours got engaged on their vacation and were planning a trip back home to see everyone. What better way to celebrate the engagement of our close friends but with a surprise engagement party. How was I going to make sure that they showed up at the time I wanted them to? We set a plan into motion, creating our guest list with a close group of friends. Everyone had a part, each having different things going on and too busy to get together until later on that evening. We asked the newly engaged couple to come over about 7pm. With the mindset we would be meeting everyone else out later.
They had no idea they were showing up to their own engagement party.
Things really came together nicley. I picked up the cutest balloons off of amazon, stopped and picked up a bottle of champaign to use as a guestbook, and created a Mr. & Mrs. drink. We used the couples favoritve bar drinks. Making a Whiskey Cokes for the Mrs. and a vodak soda as the Mr. You can even type up a fancy print indicating your drink choices and put into a pretty picture frame as part of your décor. I set up a cute little display by our bar hutch and created that as the main focuses point.
If you have ever thrown a surprise party you know it isn’t always easy making sure that everyone keeps it a secret and that everyone will shows up before the person its intended for. My tip for making sure that your surprise is kept a secret and your guest arrive before hand is keeping it small. Our guest arrived perfectly on time and everyone made sure to park a distance away from our home. Shortly after everyone arrived I closed the blinds, everyone got down on the floor to hide (full of giggles) to jump up on my code word; congrats. As soon as they arrived I greeted them and shortly said the code word congrats guys, everyone jumping up off the floor screaming SUPRISE! Our friends in shock; kept saying you guys are really sneaky. We laughed, danced and had great conversations throughout the night. She had admitted to us that she was starting to feel like no one wanted to hang out and that everyone was too busy to make the time to get together. It was the goal we were going for.
I hope it was a night to never forget, in the long run.
